unsettling.

Over the past year and a half we've wrestled with God about where we ought to live and what in the world we ought to be doing with our lives.  At times we've been like Terah, Abram's father, and while we should have been on our way to Canaan, we settled in Haran.  We don't know anything more about Terah from this passage, except that he lived 205 years and in Haran he died.

Well, it doesn't exactly parallel with John and I moving from Valparaiso, IN, to Hershey, PA, but it does feel risky as I'm sure it was for Abram and Sarai to finally listen (and trust) God and head on their way to Canaan.

So in three days, we will sneak out of our little house just before dawn.  Boaz (the 90 pound black labrador retriever), John, Ephraim, and I will stuff ourselves into our Toyota Corolla and venture to the land of chocolate and whatever it is that God has for us there.

It's scary to leave what we know.  And maybe that's why Terah settled in Haran, on his way to Canaan.  And maybe that's why it's more than time for us to unsettle ourselves and head out into the unknown.

Here's a photo of Ephraim and me (compliments to Danielle) in front of our house in Valpo last summer.  A photo of us in front of our house in Hershey will be forthcoming...

#618.

O Christ, the Great Foundation.

we sang this hymn Sunday at St. Paul's.  I'm usually not a hymns kinda girl, but the lyrics of verse three pretty much reached out and grabbed me.

1. O Christ, the great foundation
On which your people stand
To preach Your true salvation
In every age and land:
Pour out Your Holy Spirit
To make us strong and pure,
To keep the faith unbroken
As long as worlds endure.

2. Baptized in one confession,
One church in all the earth,
We bear our Lord's impression,
The sign of second birth:
One holy people gathered
In love beyond our own,
By grace we were invited,
By grace we make You known.

3. Where tyrants' hold is tightened,
Where strong devour the weak,
Where innocents are frightened,
The righteous fear to speak,
There let Your church awaking
Attack the powers of sin
And, all their ramparts breaking,
With You the victory win.

4. This is the moment glorious
When He who once was dead
Shall lead His church victorious,
Their champion and their head.
The Lord of all creation
His heavenly kingdon brings,
The final consummation,
The glory of all things.

3 years since we met.

Three years ago today, John and I met.  It would be an understatement to say that a lot has happened in those three years.

So in pictures...

Here's John at Espress Yourself coffee shop (it's since closed down) on our second "date" taken with my camera phone, a photo from our wedding-April 14, 2007, and finally, our amazing little man, Ephraim Jude, today.

Great Gram.

On the way back to Valparaiso from Hershey, we made a pit stop in Connellsville, PA, to (finally!) meet John's grandmother, Ephraim's Great Gram Triscik.
